Roar Roundup: Thank You Kate Dempsey, Hello Nathan O'Driscoll

author Raylene Easton Raylene Easton 14 October, 2026
An original AFLW Tiger says goodbye, a new wingman says hello, and the Tigers head to Friday night footy against Melbourne. With the men's season done and the AFLW run home on, here's everything worth knowing from Tigerland this week.

Thank You, Kate Dempsey

A true foundation Tiger has hung up the boots. Kate Dempsey, Richmond's longest-serving women's player and one of our inaugural AFLW Tigers, has retired effective immediately after 66 AFLW games. Elevated from the VFLW program in 2019, she debuted in 2020 and finished third in the best and fairest in both 2023 and 2024. Nine years of service to the yellow and black. Thanks, Kate, from all of us in Canberra.

Trade Period: A New Wingman and a Push for Pick 5

Richmond has landed its first new face for 2027. Nathan O'Driscoll, the 24-year-old hard-running wingman from Northam in WA, has crossed from Fremantle after 55 games in purple, and he's arriving hungry. With the trade period's final day here, list boss Blair Hartley says the club has pushed hard for Port Adelaide's pick 5, with the focus firmly on November's draft. And Jayden Short? Collingwood has offered him a deal and Richmond says it will listen.

AFLW Round 9: Crows Too Strong on Pride Round

It was a tough night at IKON Park on Saturday as Adelaide pulled away late to win by 32 points. The Crows had roughly twice as many inside 50s, but the Tigers hung in, and Georgia Stubs' third-quarter goal cut the margin to 15. A big Adelaide final term settled it. There was a highlight to savour, though: Libby Graham kicked her first AFLW goal, and McKenzie and Bacon carried a heavy load all night.

The Tigers take on Melbourne in AFLW Round 10 on Friday 16 October, 7.15pm at IKON Park. Can't make it to Melbourne? It's live on 7mate and Fox Footy from 7pm, and on Kayo, Binge and 7plus. There's good news on the injury front too: Monique Conti (Achilles) and Ally Dallaway (calf) have finished their return-to-play programs and will test for selection. Watch for the Tigers in the PUMA Clash guernsey with black shorts.

Ten Years with Midsumma

Saturday's clash with the Crows was also Richmond's AFLW Pride Round, and a milestone: ten years of partnership with Midsumma, the LGBTQIA+ arts and cultural organisation. It began around the 2017 marriage equality vote and has shaped the club's first Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan, and Midsumma artist Matthew Chan designed Richmond's first AFLW Pride guernsey. It's a great reminder that this club has room for everyone.
